Portrait of
the Artist
A native of Guam, Sister
Soledad is a member of the Sisters of
Mercy
of the Americas, Regional Community of North Carolina. She received
her B.A. degree from the University of Guam and her Master of Fine
Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The
sharing of her talents and unique gifts continues to enrich and
challenge her as she accepts invitations to speak for artists’
groups and submits entries for juried and not-juried shows,
festivals and Piccolo Spoleto.
Her busy schedule of
conducting classes, presenting workshops and instructing art
students at various colleges and university doesn’t stop her from
pursuing her work as a professional artist in addition to her
vocation in the Sisters of Mercy. Her work is expressed simply, yet
innovatively. Using prismacolor pencils and objects such as flowers,
clothespins and seashells, she draws from observation and alters the
images by the use of differing light sources. Each drawing has its
own distinct characteristics since she approaches each project
uniquely.
In addition to her
drawings, Sister Soledad spends much of her time creating and
producing hand-crafted Sterling Silver, beaded and shell jewelry
that is now available for purchase. Her Angel Collection ranges in
mediums from macaroni and epoxy resins to the use of pearls and
glass beads. She also crafts pendants, bracelets, rings and earrings
using a variety of materials all of which make unique gifts.
Sister Soledad Aguilo's
prints, postcards and jewelry are now available for order for the
discriminating buyer looking for one-of-a-kind, unique gifts, you
can rest assured that not only will her art and jewelry please the
recipient, but each piece comes complete with a prayer from this
member of the Sisters of Mercy.
